Resolution Honoring Peter DeSanto


WHEREAS, Peter DeSanto, an outstanding member of the Bridgeport community was born on April 12, 1919 and continues to serve his community in the 95th year of his life; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed Peter DeSanto's contributions to the City of Chicago by the Honorable James A. Balcer, Alderman of the 11th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Peter is a lifelong resident of the Bridgeport community and has lived on the 2900 block of South Parnell Avenue for over 70 years; and
WHEREAS, He and his late wife, Nancy, were married on May 25, 1947. Shortly thereafter, they opened a corner grocery store on 29th and Parnell that served the neighborhood for over 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Peter stocked his shelves with the highest quality of produce and meats. He was open six days a week and allowed many families to purchase on credit until payday. He employed local teenagers of struggling families to deliver groceries to the elderly; and
WHEREAS, All the neighbors rely on Peter to help them with repairs to their home or assistance with their pets. He is equally generous in donating to community charities, schools and churches. He continues to walk the neighborhood visiting the elderly and is more concerned with others than himself; and
WHEREAS, Peter is the proud father of Tina and Denise, and an even prouder grandfather to twins Peter and John, and their brother Michael; and
WHEREAS, He is a member of All Saints - Saint Anthony Parish. He proudly served two tours of duty in the United States Army and is a honest, sincere and kind man of great character. All who know him view him as a true humanitarian; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighth day of October, 2014 do hereby salute Peter DeSanto on the many years of service to his neighborhood and wish him continued health and happiness; and
