RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Daniel Usalis has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Usalis was a retired member of the Chicago Police Department and the devoted husband for sixty years of the late Mary Jane; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Usalis was the much-adored father of Thomas, Timothy, Diana and Mary Pat, the grandfather of thirteen and the great­grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Usalis bravely served his county during World War II and was first assigned to the elite 4th Raider Battalion, a forerunner of the U.S. Marine Corps Force Recon Units and the Navy Seal teams, which was responsible for some of the first victories on the ground in the Pacific Theater of Operations; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Usalis later served in the 6th Marine Division and participated in the Battle of Okinawa; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Usalis was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit Citation; and

WHEREAS, Following the war, Daniel Usalis joined the Chicago Police Department and ably served in several high-crime areas over nearly three decades; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Usalis was considered a gentle giant by his colleagues and retired from the O'Hare International Airport police detail in 1976; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Daniel Usalis serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Daniel Usalis to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and .-enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Daniel Usalis imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
