RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING JIM KONIECZNY
WHEREAS, Mr. Jim Konieczny was born on July 12, 1916, and therefore will be celebrating his 100th birthday next month. He is truly a testament of time, having experienced some of the most memorable periods of American history; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marty Quinn, Alderman of the 13th Ward, has apprised this august body of this remarkable man's auspicious milestone; and
WHEREAS, he was lived his entire life in Chicago. While his given name was Jakob, it was Americanized to Jim when he was in 2nd grade; and
WHEREAS, Jim worked for 44 years at Crane Company. During World War II he worked on parts for the Manhattan Project which was developing the first nuclear weapons; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Konieczny was married to Ann for 41 years until she passed away in 1979. He found the second love of his life, Danuta, to whom he has been married for 34 years; and
WHEREAS, he remains devoted to his family. Jim has 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He documented the family's illustrious history with numerous home movies; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Konieczny has lived in the same home since 1946. He is known as "Just Call Jim" because he would help friends and family with his amazing handyman skills and whatever else they needed. He was an avid bike rider, world traveler and an expert harmonica player; and
WHEREAS, he has been an active member of St. Turibius. His secrets to longevity are being active, honest and patient. The family joke is that he is so sweet because of the large number of cookies he eats daily; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City1 Council, gathered together this 22nd Day of June, 2016, do hereby congratulate Mr. Jim, Konieczny on his 100th birthday and extend our very best wishes for many more birthdays to come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Jim Konieczny.
