RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Bill Clements has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-four; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Texas, the Honorable Bill Clements was a former Governor of the State of Texas and the loving and devoted husband of Rita; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Bill Clements was the much-adored father of Nancy and the late B. Gill Clements to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Bill Clements served for two terms as the Governor of Texas and helped to shape the state's modern-day Republican Party; and
WHEREAS, Prior to being elected Governor, the Honorable Bill Clements headed Richard Nixon's presidential campaign in Texas and served as Deputy Secretary of Defense from 1973 to 1977; and
WHEREAS, After completing his tenure as Governor, the Honorable Bill Clements remained active in public service, participating on President Reagan's Blue Ribbon Defense Panel which examined the United States' activities in Central America; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Bill Clements served on the Board of Governors for Southern Methodist University as well as the National Executive Board for the Boy Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, In 2009, the Honorable Bill Clements donated one-hundred million dollars to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center for the purposes of research, innovation, and quality health care; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Bill Clements was described by his colleagues as someone whose leadership, service and patriotism were unparalleled; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Bill Clements will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends, and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Bill Clements imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
