RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Virgil Eugene Jones has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Virgil Eugene Jones was a former 15th Ward Alderman and Committeeman; and
WHEREAS, Born in Chicago to the late V.K. and Gertha, the Honorable Virgil Eugene Jones was the second of nine children; and
WHEREAS, A star football player with an exemplary academic record, the Honorable Virgil Eugene Jones graduated from Crane Technical High School and earned a scholarship to Eureka College; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Virgil Eugene Jones attended Northeastern University where he majored in social work and minored in community organization and development; and
WHEREAS, During his professional life, the Honorable Virgil Eugene Jones worked as a school teacher, social worker, licensed insurance broker and a police officer; and
WHEREAS, In 1991 the Honorable Virgil Eugene Jones became the second African-American to be elected 15th Ward Alderman and eleven months later became Ward Committeeman; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Virgil Eugene Jones strived to make a positive impact on his community and held elected office until 1999; and
WHEREAS, In his later years, the Honorable Virgil Eugene Jones attended Black Stone Law School and became a certified paralegal; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Virgil Eugene Jones was also in the final stages of self-publishing an autobiography and a book of poems; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Virgil Eugene Jones serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Virgil Eugene Jones to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
