RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber learned of the departure of Eva Hart Powers on July 11, 2017 at the age of 100 years old; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Eva Hart Powers was born to the union of the late Henry and Priscilla Collier in Lexington, Mississippi, on June 8, 1917, she was the fifth of ten children; and
WHEREAS, Eva moved to Springfield, Illinois in 1958. She married the love her life, the late Jimmie Powers, Sr., to their union three children were born. She later retired as a homemaker; and
WHEREAS, Eva accepted Christ at an early age and loved the Lord with all her heart, joining Holy City Missionary Baptist Church in 1969 where she faithfully served as a member of the Mother's Board; and
WHEREAS, Eva leaves to cherish her memory her son, Jimmie Powers, Sr.; brother, Henry (Essie) Collier; and a host of family and friends; and
WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Powers, Sr.; parents, Henry and Priscilla Collier, children, James and Eva Powers; grandson, Jimmie Johnson; brothers, Willie (Elnora) Collier, Sr., Jimmie (Katie) Collier; sisters, Hattie M. Smith, Lady B. (Collier) Leason, Rosie L. (Otha) King, Nona (Ralphus) Auston, Sr., Rebecca White (Henry) Jenkins, and Bessie (William) McMaham; and
WHEREAS, Eva touched the lives of all who knew her through her love for Christ and caring spirit. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twenty-sixth day of July, 2017, do hereby extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Eva Hart Powers.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution are presented to the family of Eva Hart Powers as a sign of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
