MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF DR. JOHN C. HAYES

WHEREAS, Dr. John C. Hayes, esteemed educator and public servant, passed from this life on April 13, 2020, at the age of 84- and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of John's passing by the Honorable Gregory Mitchell, Alderman of the 7th Ward; and
WHEREAS, John was bom in Tampa, FL, and matriculated at Knoxville College in Knoxville.TN, before serving in the US Army; and
WHEREAS, John ultimately chose to make Chicago his permanent home, establishing a career in education that spanned over 30 years and included working as an Associate Professor of Education at Roosevelt University as well as an administrator for Chicago Public Schools; arid
WHEREAS, John served on the Board of Directors of the Lake Terrace Condominium Association from its inception in 1992, until his death, where he held the! positions of Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President; and published the "Tenth Floor Chronicle Newsletter" that helped keep the unit owners informed and connected; and

WHEREAS, John also served on the Ashe Beach Park Advisory Council, where he was instrumental in the establishment and naming of Arthur Ashe Park on E. 74th Street, and was recognized for his work through his receipt of the Friends of the Parks Advisory Council Award at their 35th Annual Meeting; and

WHEREAS, John's sense of community stretched beyond the walls of Lake Terrace and 74th Street - he was also a key participant in the beautificatiOn of City-owned vacant lots, assisting in the cleaning arid greening of the lots; and

WHEREAS, John's presence will be missed both at Lake Terrace and in the 7th Ward, and his passing does not diminish the profound benediction of a life well lived; now,,therefore
