HONORARY STREET SIGN FOR MOTHER BETTY PRICE WAY ORDINANCE
WHEREAS, often hungry as a child Mother Betty Price, made a promise to the almighty God and herself that her own family would always have food to eat and clothes to wear. After 23 years, Mother Price resigned from her place of employment and began the mission to feed and clothe individuals and families out of her home; and
WHEREAS, in 1997, steadfast in her faith and mission of service, she acquired the old meat packing facility located in the heart of Englewood community at 1234 W. 59th St. After much renovation, Mother Price revitalized the site what is known as Feed, Clothe & Flelp Needy Mission (FCHN); and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Mother Price, FCHN has assisted thousands of families weekly throughout the City of Chicago particular those in the 16th Ward. Mother Prices was an essential force in the 2008 economic recession, offering many displaced workers the opportunity to earn income throughout FCFIN; and
WFIEREAS, Mother Price was an advocate for the poor and hungry, often gracing local/city town halls, news outlets, and any other media source advocating awareness and aide for those less fortunate within her community, where life was a daily struggle for survival for many of her neighbors; and
WFIEREAS, on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 4:30 PM, Mother Betty Price had taken her final breath, transcending from her earthly dwelling to be with her Heavenly Father, to whom she confessed at an early age; and
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
Section 1. Pursuant to Section 2-8-040 of the Municipal Code of Chicago, which allows erection of honorary street name designations, the Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation shall take the necessary action for standardization of S. Elizabeth from W. 57th St to W. 59th St as Honorary "Mother Betty Price Way".
