RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Benton House is a charitable organization which has provided social services for the Bridgeport community in the City of Chicago for more than one-hundred years; and
WHEREAS, Originally founded as Providence Day Nursery in 1907 by Janett Sturges to give day-care support for mothers who worked in local factories, Benton House was part of the early 20th Century settlement house movement; and
WHEREAS, In 1942, the establishment was renamed "Benton House" in tribute to the founder's daughter, Katherine "Ma Benton" Sturges Benton, who took over its direction; and
WHEREAS, Rich in history, Benton House has always remained rooted in its original mission, as many of its programs, services, and buildings stand as a tribute to previous generations; and
WHEREAS, Today, Benton House provides an array of social services and focuses on improving health, educational, recreational and cultural opportunities for Chicagoans; and
WHEREAS, Among the many beneficial and positive programs operated by Benton House are an emergency food pantry, daily hot lunches for senior citizens and youth sports activities; and
WHEREAS, On June, 29, 2011, Benton House will hold its 25th Annual Charitable Golf Tournament at Gleneagles Country Club in Lemont, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, On the day of this charity event, the Benton House Community Center recognizes the generosity, kindness and consideration of its many friends, past and present, including "Red" Anderson, Honorable James A. Balcer, Edward Bedore, James Bolin, William Bruton, Honorable Daniel J. Burke, Honorable John P. Daley, Timothy Degnan, Jr., Michael Dudek, Joseph Fratto, Michael Gurgone, Robert Grossi, Robert Healy, Michael Hollendoner, Luke Howe, the Honorable Patrick Huels, Edward J.
