RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Deacon Salvatore ("Sal") Villa's 50th Anniversary of his Ordination by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Sal was born on December 5, 1929 to his parents, Michael and Margaret Villa on the south side of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Sal grew up in Bridgeport with his parents and his nine siblings near Chinatown on 27th Street and South Princeton Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Sal attended Santa Maria Incoronata grade school and St. Rita High School where he graduated in 1949; and
WHEREAS, He was drafted in the U. S. Army and served from 1951 -1953 in Germany; and
WHEREAS, Sal worked at Morrie Mages Sports downtown as well as selling subscriptions for the Extension and St. Anthony Messenger magazines; and
WHEREAS, He had contemplated entering tlie seminary to become a priest, but that all changed when he met his future wife, Marie; and
WHEREAS, Sal and Marie married on January 18, 1958 and will be married 65 years on January 18, 2023; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, Sal answered the call to ordained minisny in the Catholic Church by entering the seminary programs for deacons; and
WHEREAS, Sal was ordained in the first diaconate class in the Archdiocese of Chicago on December 10, 1972; and
WHEREAS, He was one of the 96 to be ordained, and his ordination was held at St. John of God Church by Bishop Abramowicz; and
WHEREAS, Sal and Marie moved to 45th and Avers in 1965 and joined St. Bruno Parish, where Sal was assigned after his ordination and has been ministering to the parishioners for the past 50 years; and
WHEREAS, During his ministry at St. Bruno, Sal was the moderator of the St. Bruno Teen Club, coached the boys softball team, and was moderator for the Phoenix Group for the divorced and separated; and
WHEREAS, Sal has two children, Michael and Joseph, five grandchildren, and three greatgrandchildren; now, therefore
