RESOLUTION HONORING REBECCA "BECKY" KLIBER ON HER RETIREMENT FROM THE CHICAGO PARK DISTRICT
WHEREAS, Rebecca "Becky" Kliber retired from the Chicago Park District after 36 years of service, including 17 as park supervisor at Welles Park; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council was made aware ofthis occasion by Aid. Matt Martin ofthe 47th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Kliber grew up in the Lincoln Square neighborhood surrounding Welles Park and had her first job at this local park; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Kliber was particularly fond ofthe special recreation camps at Welles Park and assisting older adults who came to the park for swimming and other programs; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Kliber made Welles Park a haven for environmental activities, including the opening ofthe nature play area in 2018 and coordinating the inaugural 47th Ward Eco Fest in 2021; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Kliber was instrumental in the formation of Midnight Circus in the Parks, which began at Welles Park in 2007 and, with her assistance, expanded citywide, including in historically underserved communities, raising over $1.5 million for park programs and improvements; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Kliber was well respected by her colleagues as a lead negotiator with the Park District employees' union; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Kliber went above and beyond her duty with the Park District to open Welles Park as an early voting location in the 47th Ward and help manage those operations; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, do hereby congratulate Ms. Kliber on her retirement, and express heartfelt gratitude for her years of service; and
