RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dorothy Storck has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 88; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the River North neighborhood, Dorothy Storck was a widely travelled and highly accomplished Chicago journalist; and
WHEREAS, Raised in a military family in Bronxville, New York, Dorothy Storck graduated with a degree in English literature from Columbia University's Barnard College; and
WHEREAS, Before pursuing her newspaper career, Dorothy Storck served for 14 years as a member of the United States Air Force and rose to the rank of Major; and
WHEREAS, In 1965 Dorothy Storck joined the Chicago American which became the Chicago Today American in 1969 and the Chicago Today in 1970; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Storck covered a variety of high-profile stories at the newspaper, including the trial of Sirhan Sirhan who assassinated Robert Kennedy, the 1968 and 1972 presidential campaigns, the voyages of NASA's Apollo 10, 11 and 13 and the 1967 Detroit riots; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Storck joined the Philadelphia Inquirer in 1979 where she wrote a lifestyles column that was syndicated in 250 newspapers across the nation; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Storck shared a Pulitzer Prize for reporting in 1979 on the Three Mile Island nuclear disaster; and
WHEREAS, In 1989 Dorothy Storck moved to London, England, to cover politics before retiring in 1991 and returning to Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Storck will be remembered for her talent, sardonic humor and compassion toward others; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dorothy Storck serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Storck was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
