Resolution
WHEREAS, in 2013, the Music Box Theatre is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its 1983 opening as a home in Chicago for independent, classic and foreign films in the Lakevicw neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, Alderman Thomas Tunney has learned of this anniversary milestone; and,
WHEREAS, the Music Box Theatre building was constructed as one of Chicago's first dedicated film houses outfitted for sound in August of 1929; and,
WHEREAS, the Music Box Theatre is one of the few intact cinemas in Chicago to have survived major renovation to its 750 seat auditorium; and,
WHEREAS, the Music Box Theatre and remained a vibrant part of the Lakeview community as a continuously operating art house cinema for the past 30 years; and.
WHEREAS, the Music Box Theatre has provided entertainment, education and culture for millions of residents and guests of Chicago; and,
WHEREAS, the Music Box Theatre's main auditorium has been fully restored and currently is the largest auditorium dedicated to the full time presentation of motion pictures in the City of Chicago; and,
WHEREAS, Since 2007, Music Box Theatre has expanded its vision of bringing diverse cinematic experiences to appreciative audiences by distributing foreign and independent films to theaters and home entertainment platforms throughout the U.S. and foreign markets, through the founding of Music Box Films; and,
WHEREAS, the Music Box Theatre is recognized as one of the nation's foremost art house cinemas, a thriving cultural institution, and a vibrant facet of Chicago's history; and,
WHEREAS, the Music Box Theatre is the only cinema in Chicago capable of screening films in 16mm, 35mm, 70mm. and digital formats at the proper aspect ratio and film speed as well as silent films with live organ accompaniment; and,
WHEREAS, the Music Box Theatre is celebrating the remodeling and reopening of its 75 seat screening room with state of the art digital projection and sound; and,
