RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin Campbell has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 90; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin Campbell was a highly distinguished jurist who served for thirty years as a Justice of the Illinois Appellate Court; and

WHEREAS, A native of Roanoke, Virginia; the Honorable Calvin Campbell served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II and was a recipient of the Bronze Star; and

WHEREAS, While traveling home through Chicago after the war, the Honorable Calvin Campbell fell in love with the City and vowed take up permanent residence .here; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin Campbell graduated from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and the University of Chicago Law School; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin Campbell worked for 18 years with the Illinois Attorney General's Office before being appointed in 1977 to serve as a Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County; and

WHEREAS, In 1978 the Honorable Calvin Campbell was elected to a seat on the Illinois Appellate Court where he ably served until his retirement in 2008; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Calvin Campbell serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Calvin Campbell to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin Campbell will .be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his daughter, Cathy, and his sister, Mae, the Honorable Calvin Campbell imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
