RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, More than 1.5 million, heavy duty plastic 96-gallon garbage carts are supplied by the City to single-family residences and apartment buildings of four units or less; and
WHEREAS, Despite being "super carts" that are equipped with heavy duty tight fitting lids, City garbage carts are frequently damaged by rodents and wildlife; and
WHEREAS, Aldermen throughout the City receive multiple requests from residents to regularly replace garbage carts which have been almost immediately damaged by local animals; and
WHEREAS, The current necessity of replacing damaged garbage carts is costly and inefficient; and, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 29th day of March, 2017, do hereby call upon the Commissioner of Streets and Sanitation to appear at hearings before the Committee on Finance to discuss costs associated with the City's garbage cart program and options for procuring stronger garbage carts.
