RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Chicago Bar Association will honor the Honorable William J. Bauer for his forty years of distinguished service as a federal Judge of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals at a gala celebration on March 21, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of the South Side, the Honorable William J. Bauer was raised in Chicago and the far western suburb of Elmhurst; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William J. Bauer graduated from Elmhurst College and DePaul University College of Law and has spent virtually his entire career in public service; and
WHEREAS, In 1952 the Honorable William J. Bauer began working as a DuPage County Assistant State's Attorney; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William J. Bauer was elected in 1958 as DuPage County State's Attorney; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William J. Bauer ably served from 1964 to 1970 as a Judge of the DuPage County Circuit Court; and
WHEREAS, In 1970 the Honorable William J. Bauer was named United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois and left in 1971 to become a federal Judge; and
WHEREAS, In 1974 the Honorable William J. Bauer was appointed to the 7th Circuit and was Chief Judge from 1986 to 1993; and
WHEREAS, A highly distinguished member of the judicial community, the Honorable William J. Bauer assumed Senior Status in 1994; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William J. Bauer is a member of the Board of Trustees of DePaul University, Elmhurst College and Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and is actively involved in numerous civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William J. Bauer is a recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Lincoln Award from the Chicago Bar
Association and the Catholic Lawyer of the Year Award bestowed by the Catholic Lawyers Guild; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable William J. Bauer serve as an example to all; now, therefore
