RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, On January 28, 2014, Illinois State Senator Michael Hastings introduced Senate Bill 2694, that prohibits knowingly placing, posting or reproducing sexually explicit photos, videos or other digital images of a person on the Internet without the knowledge and consent of the person ("posting of private material for pornographic purposes"); and
WHEREAS, Senator Hastings' bill, if enacted, would make the posting of private material for pornographic purposes a Class 4 felony, punishable by up to 3 years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 2694 also prohibits any person engaged in the placing, posting, publishing, reproducing, or maintaining of an Internet site to solicit or accept the payment of a fee or other consideration for removal of a person's private material or identifying information, which has been placed, posted, published, reproduced, or maintained on an Internet site without the knowledge and consent of that person; and
WHEREAS, On February 19, 2014, the Illinois Senate Committee on Criminal Law recommended the State Senate to pass Senate Bill 2694, which now is pending before the Senate floor; and
WHEREAS, The bill prohibits Internet-bullying of people by their former spouses, boyfriends, girlfriends and lovers who threaten to post private sexually explicit images taken or recorded during the relationship on the Internet after a divorce or separation; and
WHEREAS, The bill also protects the private lives and businesses of people whose reputation would otherwise be tarnished by vengeful former spouses, boyfriends, girlfriends or lovers; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this fifth day of March, 2014, do hereby UFgcthe Illinois General Assembly dripass Senate Bill 2694; and
