MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF
JIMMIE LEE SAWYER
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in his infinite wisdom and judgment has called to his eternal rest Mr. Jimmie Lee Sawyer, beloved citizen and friend, on Monday, March 23, 2011; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and i ri
WHEREAS, Jimmie Lee Sawyer was born in Mariana, Arkansas on November 6,, 1944, to Minnie and John Wesley Sawyer, both who preceded him in death. Furthermore, he was a loving and devoted son; and
WHEREAS, Jimmjg JLee Sawyer accepted Christ as his personal savior at an ear ly; age, and known as "Big Jim", who was deeply respected and loved by all who knew him; and
WHEREAS, Jimmie Lee Sawyer was a proud, dedicated and long-time resident of the Austin community on Chicago's west side; and r i vk /
WHEREAS, Jimmie Lee Sawyer attended Farragut High School and showing his deep love and devotion for his country, Mr. Sawyer enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he attained the rank of Gunner's Mate. He received an honorable discharge in 1966. Always industrious, Mr. Sawyer was self-employed, a self taught 'jack-of-all-tracies' and excelled in the fields of
construction, landscaping and plumbing. In 1991 he fulfilled his dream of becoming licensed barber, starting his own business after graduating from Rivas Barber School; and
WHEREAS, Jimmie, Lee Sawyer completed his life's mission and departed this life on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 12:10 p.m. The brother of eight (Edward Lee and Sylvester preceded him in death), he leaves to mourn his passing six siblings: Nancy B. Sawyer, Oscar Lee Sawyer, Willie Mae Williams, Vivian Sawyer, Carolyn Sawyer and Carl Sawyer; one son, Lamont Stantoncand daughter-in-law Lori, one grandson, Jimi, two stepsons, Billy Stanton and Goldie Barr, 18 nieces and nephews, 22 great-nieces and nephews, 8 great-great nieces and nephew^athree very special lady friends, Joan Austin, Denise (Niecy) Thomas, and Diane...
