RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel K. Inouye has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 88; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel K. Inouye was the loving and devoted husband of Irene Hirano and the late Margaret Awamura Inouye; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel K. Inouye was the much-adored father of Daniel K. "Ken" Inouye, Jr., to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel K. Inouye received the Congressional Medal of Honor for valor under fire during World War II; and
 
WHEREAS, Elected to the United States House of Representatives for Hawaii in 1959, the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye became the first Japanese-American to serve in the United States Congress; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1963 the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye was elected to the Senate and had the distinction of being the President pro tempore of the Senate as well as the second longest serving senator in history; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of January, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye.
