MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF BIRDIE MAE TUCKER

WHEREAS, Birdie Mae Tucker, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and longtime Beverly resident, made her heavenly transition on June 4, 2021, at 96-years-old, just three weeks shy of her 97th birthday; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Birdie's passing by the Honorable Matthew J. O'Shea, Alderman of the 19th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Birdie was born on June 27, 1924, and has been a Beverly resident since 1997; and
WHEREAS, A devoted wife, Birdie was married to James B. Tucker, Sr. for 63 years, until he preceded her in death in 2010 at the age of 93; the couple had four children: Sheila Tucker, Janice Tucker Shepard, James B. Tucker, Jr., and Carolyn Tucker; and twin grandchildren: James A. Shepard, Jr. and Alicia Janine Shepard; and

WHEREAS, A woman of faith, Birdie was a member of the Church of God in Christ under Bishop Louis H. Ford, a deaconess and vacation bible school teacher at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, and a member of Trinity United Church of Christ under senior pastor the Reverend Dr. Otis Moss, III; and

WHEREAS, Birdie was civically minded - she was a faithful voter and always made sure she voted by mail in all elections; she was also an advocate for Chicago Public School students, and was active in the PTA at her children's schools; and

WHEREAS, Birdie and James felt education was thekey to having options and being successful in life; making their mother proud, all four of Birdie's children went to college and earned their bachelor's degrees, with two of the children going on to earn Masters Degrees as well; and

WHEREAS, In her free time, Birdie loved gardening and always maintained beautiful and colorful front yard and backyard gardens - she was especially fond of roses and orchids; Birdie also loved to travel, having visited Hawaii, London, Paris, and Madrid; and

WHEREAS, Birdie will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her; now, therefor...
