RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Robert "Bob" Pickens has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 75; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Robert "Bob" Pickens was a former member of the Chicago Breas and was among the first African-American wrestlers to compete for the United States in the Olympics; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Evanston, Robert "Bob" Pickens began wrestling at Evanston Township High School and was recruited to play football at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; and
WHEREAS, Robert "Bob" Pickens was a tackle for the Chicago Bears from 1967 to 1969; and
WHEREAS, Robert "Bob" Pickens enjoyed a highly successful business career at Sears Roebuck & Company and at the advertising firm Foote, Cone 85 Belding; and
WHEREAS, An entrepreneur, Robert "Bob" Pickens started his own toy company, Rainbow Classics, and imported African-American dolls from Africa; and
WHEREAS, Robert "Bob" Pickens also served as a Chicago Park District Commissioner; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Robert "Bob" Pickens serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Robert "Bob" Pickens to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Robert "Bob" Pickens was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his wife, Judith, his daughter, Tori, his two grandchildren and his one great-grandchild, Robert "Bob" Pickens imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this 25th day of May, 2018, do hereby commemorate Robert "Bob" Pickens for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his fam...
