TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF RUTH JONES

WHEREAS, On Thursday, October 10, 2013, God in His Infinite wisdom and judgment called Ruth Jones, an outstanding citizen and loving friend, to eternal rest at the age of eighty-seven; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of the passing of Ruth Jones, by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman of the 34th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Budget and Government Operations; and

WHEREAS, On March 17,1926, in Birmingham, Alabama, the union of Rev. Archie and Carrie Manning was blessed with the birth of their daughter, Ruth. She was the second of the six children who brought happiness into the Manning Family home; and

WHEREAS, In 1951, Ruth married her one true love, Charles Jones, Sr. For fifty-five years they shared a deep and abiding love which produced three children, Charles, Rogers and Betty; and

WHEREAS, At an early age, Ruth accepted Christ as her personal Savior and gave Him praise daily. She was a faithful member of Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. George W. Jones, serving in various positions for over 25 years. She later moved her membership to New Shining Light Baptist Church and served in the ministry as President of the Pastor's Aide Ministry; and

WHEREAS, Ruth received her Evangelist License and was appointed as the Church Mother. She served faithfully with Fountain of Life GOGIC for over thirty years; until her health began to decline; and

WHEREAS, Grandma Jones, a loving woman who not only cared for her grandchildren, but for most of the neighborhood children, became the Neighborhood Nanny. Ruth Jones' daughter, Betty was so grateful for the work her mother did, she opened "Grandma Jones Day Care Centers" I and II in her mothers honor; and

WHEREAS, Missionary Ruth Jones lived a full and productive life, giving to those she met along the way the benefit of her friendship and counsel and was a woman who lived a life exemplifying her faith as opposed to just pro...
