RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ross Lathrop has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ross Lathrop was a former 5th Ward Chicago Alderman and the loving husband for 57 years of Carol; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ross Lathrop was the much-adored father of Tanya, Kira, Lisa and Pala and the grandfather of ten to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ross Lathrop was the dear brother of Nancy; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Beloit, Wisconsin, the Honorable Ross Lathrop graduated from Ripon College before moving to Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ross Lathrop worked from 1961 to 1975 as a management specialist at the University of Chicago's Industrial Relations Center; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ross Lathrop ran for Alderman in 1975 and served one term on the City Council representing the traditionally independent Hyde Park community; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ross Lathrop later became active in real estate development in Hyde Park and moved to suburban Wheaton in 2001; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Ross Lathrop serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Ross Lathrop to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Ross Lathrop imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Ross Lathrop for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
