RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Nikolaos "Nick" Mirkopoulos has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-one; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Greece, Nikolaos "Nick" Mirkopoulos was a widely admired business leader and philanthropist; and
WHEREAS, Nikolaos "Nick" Mirkopoulos emigrated from Greece in 1968 and carved out a career as a prominent developer of film studios in both Chicago and Toronto; and
WHEREAS, In 1988 Nikolaos "Nick" Mirkopoulos spearheaded the development of Cinespace in Canada and later developed three other studio complexes in Toronto; and
WHEREAS, In Chicago, Nikolaos "Nick" Mirkopoulos oversaw the redevelopment of a fifty-acre site into a film production campus; and
WHEREAS, Beneficiaries of the philanthropic endeavors of Nikolaos "Nick" Mirkopoulos included DePaul University's School of Cinema, the Titzhak Rabin Center in Tel Aviv, the Arc of the World Children's Charity in Greece and the University of Toronto faculty of Music; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Nikolaos "Nick" Mirkopoulos serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Nikolaos "Nick" Mirkopoulos to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Nikolaos "Nick" Mirkopoulos will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his four brothers and his beloved family, Nikolaos "Nick" Mirkopoulos imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of December, 2013, do hereby commemorate Nikolaos "Nick" Mirkopoulos for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
