RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, In His infinite wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Dixie Lee Laster on February 21, 2018, outstanding citizen and member of her community; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Anthony Beale, Alderman of the 9th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on December 3, 1943, in Indianola, Mississippi, blessing the union of (the late) Mary L. House and (the late) Sammie Lee Sr. She is preceded in death by her Step Father, Nathaniel Deal; daughter, Betty Joe; Son, Joe Louis Melton Jr.; Sisters, Josephine Cotton, Willie Mae Lee and Mary Lee. Dixie leaves a legacy of.faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her lifetime, Dixie worked as a short order cook, was a dedicated employee at Baxter Labs and a CNA at Westshire Nursing Home where she retired in 2000. In retirement and her passion for cooking, she began to cater for people from all walks of life and she loved it; and
WHEREAS, Dixie was beloved by all who knew her for her sweet and gentle spirt, love of life and appreciation for what she had, especially her family. She was a woman of grace, class, and wisdom. An active and vital member of her community, she never hesitated to give a helping hand;and
WHEREAS, Dixie leaves to love, cherish and honor her memory, her children, Molinda D. Lee (Stevie), Carolyn Irving, Joey J. Melton, Latasha H. Ward (Frederick); her siblings, Annie Bell White, Sammie Lee (Everline), J.C. Harris, Obay Harris, Pealie M Thomas, Rosie Session, Laydene Byas (Eddie), Erline Howard (Johnny), Linda Sue Deal; grandchildren, Latoya Lee, Dawn Lee, Jeremiah Lee, Darius Lee, Dixie Lee, Brice Melton, Christopher Melton, Essence Johnson, Justine Douglas, London Melton and Logan Melton; twenty-five greatgrandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; dear aunt of many nieces and nephews and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her; and
