Title: Gratitude extended to firefighter Christopher Reischl on life-saving effort

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Christopher Reischl exhibited leadership and free-spiritedness throughout his entire life; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Reischl performed bravely as a 14 year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department, who thrived on the excitement and challenges of the position; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Reischl was recognized as a recipient of the Medal of Honor, State of Illinois' highest recommendation for heroism by a firefighter, and;
WHEREAS, Christopher Reischl earned this honor by demonstrating his courage and heroism by rescuing an unconscious man from a burning coach house with zero visibility conditions; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Reischl actively participated in making his community a better place by offering his knowledge and talents to his friends and neighbors; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Reischl demonstrated his creativity and innovation by constructing 12 foot pop-up monsters and 20 foot pirate ships for the enjoyment of his neighbors on West Berteau Avenue, and;
WHEREAS, the block parties on West Berteau Avenue became an attraction for the entire Portage Park community because of Christopher Reischl's inventions; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Reischl will be remembered not only as the "guy who built the pirate ship", but also inspired neighbors with his ingenuity and hospitality, and risked his life for others by profession;
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago assembled here this 6th day of July, 2011 express our gratitude to Christopher Reischl and the Reischl family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to his family.
