MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Joseph Terry Shields on September 10, 2013, at the age of seventy; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on October 25, 1942, Joseph Terry Shields, Retired Lieutenant with the Chicago Police Department, was an active and vital member of his community. The loving husband of Carol (nee Kelly); adoring father of Tracy (James O'Reilly), Daniel Joseph (Trisha) Shields, Megan (Robin Biles), Michael K. (Kara) Shields; cherished grandfather to Ian, Connor, Brendan, Callie, Michael, Seamus Joseph, Maeve, Greer and Finlay Joe; loving brother of the late Michael Shields; fond uncle and treasured friend of many, Joseph leaves a legacy of faith, compassion, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, Joseph will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this sixteenth day of October 2013, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Joseph Terry Shields and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
