MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, It was with great sadness that members of this chamber learned of the death of Joan C. "The Queen" Coursey; and
 
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Joan Coursey was an active and vital member of her community. The loving wife of John P. Coursey; beloved mother of Edward P. (Maureen) and Mary Kate Coursey: future grandmother of one; dear sister of Catherine (the late Michael) Kelly and the late John (Nancy) Murphy; cherished sister-in-law of Michael (Margo) Coursey and Eileen (the late Tim) Siebert; treasured aunt of many nieces and nephews, Joan leaves a legacy of faith, compassion, dignity and love; and
 
WHEREAS, Joan touched the lives of all who knew her through her kindness, her generosity, her spirit, and her zest for life. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in those who knew and loved her; and
 
WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Joan's zest for life was evident as she danced enthusiastically to her own drummer, especially to "I Will Survive" and "Come On Eileen;" and
 
WHEREAS, Among her many talents, Joan was very skilled in a variety of arts and crafts, creating countless commemorative pillows for graduations, wedding and births for family and friends; and
 
WHEREAS, Joan Coursey will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twelfth day of December 2012, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Joan Coursey and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
 
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joan C. Coursey
