CONGRATULATING ROBERT ANDREW RICHTER ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM
THE CHICAGO FIRE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, Firefighter Robert Andrew Richter, an outstanding public servant and member of his community, is retiring from the Chicago Fire Department as an Engineer/ Emergency Medical Technician and Hazardous Materials Tech in December of 2012 after more than three decades of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, Born on December 1, 1957 and raised in the Brighton Park neighborhood along with his 2 brothers, Robert Richter graduated from Luther South High School and attended Northern Illinois University; and
WHEREAS, Robert Richter began his career with the Chicago Fire Department on February 18, 1980 and was assigned to Engine 49. He married Janet Marie Johnston on November 22, 1980. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Kelly, and a son, Robert; and
WHEREAS, Robert Richter was promoted to Engineer on August 15, 1989 and was assigned to 1st District Relief, transferring to Engine 14 shortly thereafter where he served for the next 16 years. He decided to cross train as an Engineer/Emergency Medical Technician in 2005 and as Hazardous Materials Tech A in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Robert Richter showed great courage during trench rescue on the 5900 block of West Belmont and was awarded a Unit Citation. Additionally, he served the community as a custodian at St. Peter Lutheran Church for a quarter century as well as being a volunteer diver at the Shedd Aquarium; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Walter Burnett, Jr., Alderman of the 27th Ward, has apprised this august body ofthe significant milestone of this first-responder; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council gathered this 8th Day of November, 2012 AD, hereby congratulate Firefighter Robert Andrew Richter for 33 years of noteworthy service to the Chicago Fire Department and the citizens of this city and express our best wishes for success in all his future endeavors.
