RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Las Fuentes Mexican Restaurant was opened by Jorge Albarran, and has been a part of the Lincoln Park community for thirty-five years; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by the Honorable Michele Smith, Alderman of the 43rd Ward; and
WHEREAS, Jorge Albarran was born in Mexico on November 11, 1951, and he moved to Chicago in 1978 where he worked in many restaurants, including the Drake Hotel, as a server and busboy; and
WHEREAS, After four years of hard work, Jorge was able to save enough money to open his own business, Las Fuentes Mexican Restaurant, on the corner of Halsted and Wrightwood at 2558 North Halsted in Chicago's Lincoln Park community; and
WHEREAS, Since opening, the restaurant has been tremendously successful, guests love the delicious Mexican food and enjoy margaritas on their patio in the summer; and
WHEREAS, In 1990, Jorge Albarran, along with another area restaurant, successfully lobbied the City of Chicago for the rights of restaurant owners to operate outdoor beer gardens; and
WHEREAS, Las Fuentes Mexican Restaurant has become a cherished institution in the community, a gem that continues to grow and contribute to the unique character of the area; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this 14th day of December, 2016, do hereby congratulate Jorge Albarran on the 35th anniversary of Las Fuentes Mexican Restaurant.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution are presented to Mr. Jorge Albarran as a sign of our honor and respect.
