dedicated and outstanding service to the people of the 17th Ward and the City

/¦'¦¦'\ WHEREAS, An exemplary product of the Chicago Public Schools system,. Alderman Thomas attended Oglesby Elementary School and Kenwood Academy on Chicago's South Side. She earned her bachelor's degree in .; political science from the University of Illinois and her juris doctor degree from DePaul University College of Law; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Chicago City Council, Alderman Thomas enjoyed a successful career in private law practice and government service. In \ 1997, she began working for the Department of Human Services as Associate Director of the Children's Services Division. In April of 2000, she was promoted to. Director of Intergovernmental Relations; and: ...
WHEREAS, First appointed to the Chicago City Council in 2000 to fill a j. vacant qidermanic seat, Alderman Thomas was re-elected to four additional terms; and
WHEREAS, A proud resident of the 17th Ward for most of her life. Alderman ; Thomas worked tirelessly to improve the Englewood and Auburn Gresham neighborhoods by spurring investment in local businesses/During her three terms in office, the 17th Ward experienced the greatest increase in. new home construction and business growth in thirty years; and
