RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Members ofthis Chamber applaud the Chicago Public League's Curie High School for winning the Boy's 4A Basketball State championship on March 19, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The Curie Basketball team had a remarkable year with a 28 and 5 win-lose record. The team played with great enthusiasm throughout the year with a "never-give-up" attitude; and
WHEREAS, The championship game between Curie and Benet, held at Carver Arena in Peoria, was an exciting game. The lead changed hands on several occasions, especially in the first half of play; and
WHEREAS, Benet played like champions in the first half, leading by 12 on three separate occasions. They led by 34 to 30 with 2 minutes and 33 seconds left in the third quarter when they went ice cold; and
WHEREAS, Then Devin Gage (who has committed to DePaul University) sparked a furious comeback, leading Curie to a 19 to 0 run that gave the Condors a commanding lead of 15 points with 3:44 left in the game. Benet went a full nine minutes without scoring a point; and
WHEREAS, Not surprisingly, Devin Gage was named Player ofthe Game, scoring 23 points, including making four 3-pointers; and
WHEREAS, Curie's Treavon Martin (a 6-foot 7-inch Sophomore) also had an outstanding game, scoring 10 points and grabbing 14 rebounds; and
WHEREAS, This was the first Boys Basketball State championship in Curie's history; and
WHEREAS, Curie High School (officially Marie Sklodowska Curie Metropolitan High School) is named in honor ofthe great Madame Marie Curie, winner of two Nobel prizes, one in chemistry and the other in physics; and
