MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Effie Marie Davis, most beloved citizen to her eternal reward, June 29,2014; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Effie was born on November 6, 1931 in Gainesboro, Tennessee to the late Henry and Mattie Langford-Allen; and
WHEREAS, Effie attended Darwin High School in Cookville, Tennessee, and went on first to have a career as an assistant and seamstress, then moving on to become a manager for the Pullman Clothing Company, proving early on her capabilities for business and personal relationships in a male-dominated career field; and
WHEREAS, a woman of great beauty and grace both internally and externally, Effie advanced and promoted growth for her company by modeling clothes and using her poise and talent to further her career; and
WHEREAS, at a young age, Effie was already the matriarch of her family: determined to bring her brothers and sisters to Chicago, Illinois, in pursuit of a better life and opportunities. She encouraged college educations for all of her siblings, raised and cared for them, and then took on her role later in life as a loving and devoted mother. Throughout her entire life, even at a young age, she never shied away from her natural role as a mentor and leader; and
WHEREAS, Effie Marie Davis leaves to mourn, Barbara Wolley (proceeded in death), Linda Williams and Sandra Hill (Jessie); one step-son, Rafael Jones, from her union with Lawrence Davis (proceeded in death); seven grandchildren, Jerome Wolley, Joseph Miles, Marie Williams, Darnell Wolley, Juanita Moore, Jessica Hill, Willie Williams; four great grandchildren, Jontavia Guilty, Jonbeney Guilty, Hay lee Robinson, Hannah Robinson, and countless friends and community members; and
WHEREAS, a woman of power and beauty, grace and charm; cherished friend and supportive family member to all, Effie will be deeply missed but the reme...
