RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-nine; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker was a widely admired suburban elected official and the loving husband of the late Phyllis, nee Twery; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker was the much-adored father of Sharon Sutker McGowan, the Honorable Shelley Sutker-Dermer, the Honorable Edie Sue, Allen and the late Edward and the grandfather of eight; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker was the dear brother of Ada Rabinowitz and Irwin; and
WHEREAS, A native of Forest Park, the Honorable Calvin R. Sutker served his country as a member of the United States Army in Europe during World War II; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Skokie, the Honorable Calvin R. Sutker enjoyed a long and highly successful career in politics and was a former Chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker was instrumental in bringing to Skokie the Northshore Sculpture Park, the 2nd District Courthouse and the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker served as Democratic Committeeman from 1978 to 2006 and was a Skokie Trustee from 1965 to 1969; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1985 to 1991 and was a Cook County Commissioner from 1994 to 2002; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Calvin R. Sutker was known for his generosity of spirit and was active in Jewish charitable causes, including NA'AMAT USA; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Calvin R. Sutker serve as an example to all; and
