MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR ROSIE MARIE HINES CARTER
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of this Chamber learned of the passing of Mrs. Rosie Marie Hines Carter on February 8, 2017; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Gregory I. Mitchell, Alderman of the 7th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Rosie Marie Hines Carter was born to the blessed union of Lantha Corner Hines and Cato Hines in Springridge, Louisiana, on September 10, 1938; and
WHEREAS, Rosie was the Valedictorian of Walnut Hill High School's first graduating class in 1957. She received a scholarship to Grambling College (Grambling State University), graduating in 1961, and went on to receive a Master's Degree in Education in 1981 from Governor's State University; and
WHEREAS, Rosie went on to marry the love of her life, Osie B. Carter, on June 17, 1962. Their union was blessed with four children; and
WHEREAS, Rosie began her teaching career in 1961 in Louisiana, where she was the First Grade teacher of NBA Hall of Famer, Robert Parish of the Boston Celtics. She relocated to Chicago the following year, starting her career with Chicago Public Schools at Hookway Elementary School, moving on to Stagg Elementary School. In 2001, she retired from Richard J. Oglesby Elementary School after 39 years of service; and
WHEREAS, Rosie accepted Christ at an early age, and joined the Greater Institutional A.M.E. Church in 1964 where she remained a faithful member until her passing. At the church, Rosie held many leadership roles, including serving as the Cherub Choir Director, President of the Golden Guild, YAC Parent Supporter, a member of the Calendar Committee, and the 11 .a.m. Bible Study Group; and
WHEREAS, She was also active in her community, and was a dedicated member of the Red Hat Society - Bubblin' Brown Sugar Chapter and the National Women of Achievement; and
