RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Julie Hamos has announced she will officially step down as Director of the Illinois Department of Healthcare 8& Family Services in January of 2015 to pursue future career opportunities; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, During her forty years of public service, including more than seventeen years of service to the people of Illinois, the Honorable Julie Hamos has earned the public's respect and trust; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Julie Hamos was named Director in 2010 and in that leadership position oversaw a state agency responsible for Medicaid and AllKids programs, the Group Health Insurance Program and the Child Support Services Program; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Julie Hamos ably served in the Illinois General Assembly representing the 18th District from 1999 to 2010; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure in Springfield, the Honorable Julie Hamos was the chief sponsor of key initiatives, including the Illinois Health Information Exchange and Technology Act, the Children's Mental Health Act and the Older Adults Services Act; and
WHEREAS, Before joining the Illinois General Assembly, the Honorable Julie Hamos served from 1988 to, 2007 as President of Julie Hamos 8& Associates, a firm specializing in policy development, communications and community relations; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Julie Hamos previously was the Director of the Child Support Division for the Cook County State's Attorneys Office from 1985 to 1988 and Legislative Counsel and Policy Advisor on Crime Victims for the office from 1981 to 1995; and
WHEREAS, In the course of her extraordinary career, the Honorable Julie Hamos has received numerous awards and honors, including the Thresholds Hero Award, the Paul Simon Courage in Public Service Award and the Norweigen American Hospital Innovative and Breakthrough Leadership Award; and
