tyQ\[£t6Cl$ > °n the co,d morning of December 17, 2013, a 15-year old girl was walking to a bus stop on her way to school in Chicago's Belmont-Cragin neighborhood when she was accosted by a man, dragged behind a building, brutally beaten and sexually assaulted, and left unconscious, half naked and bleeding in the building's rear yard; and
WHEREAS, By the time the girl was discovered by neighbors, she was suffering from hypothermia, massive blood loss, and severe head and body trauma. Rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, the girl had sustained such grave injuries that she was unable to speak for two weeks; and
WHEREAS, Responding police officers from the 25th District and an evidence technician from the Forensic Services Division immediately secured the area, photographed and recovered vital evidence and identified the offender's possible flight path; and
WHEREAS, Having investigated the crime scene, Area North detectives extensively canvassed the surrounding community. Their meticulous and comprehensive investigation produced witnesses, video tape and additional evidence necessary to identify the offender; and
WHEREAS, Scientists at the Illinois State Police Crime Laboratory were provided with numerous items left at the crime scene, as well as photographic images of a shoe print left in the snow by the offender. Using state-of-the-art technology, the...
