WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Doctor Charles G. Hayes, also known as Father Hayes, an outstanding community leader and spiritual guide;
 
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by Willie B. Cochran, Alderman of the 20th Ward;
 
WHEREAS, Pastor Hayes was born in Verbena, Alabama on December 10,1937 as the third child of Mamie Lee and Will Hayes;
 
WHEREAS, In 1955 he moved to Chicago and became a church musician;
 
WHEREAS, Having heard the calling of the church, Charles Hayes was ordained on August 31, 1957 and quickly organized the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer on April 28, 1959;
 
WHEREAS, Pastor Hayes learned the ministry from many great pioneers such as Prophet L.K. Johnson, Pastor Clarence Cobbs, Bishop Louis Boddie, Bishop Anderson, Pastor Franklin and others;
 
WHEREAS, Continuing his commitment to the faith and his church, Pastor Hayes received his Doctorate Degree from the Religious Science Institute in 1973 and an honorary Decorate of Human Letters from St. Martin's College and Seminary in 1974;
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Hayes served faithfully for nearly 55 years and in 1979 had the vision to acquire the present site for the Cosmopolitan Church ofPrayer, which is now listed as a historic landmark;
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Hayes willforever be known for the professional, award winning choir at the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer;
 
WHEREAS, He was also a beloved father of two and a grandfather;
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled here this March 5, 2014 AD, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Pastor Charles G. Hayes and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
