SALUTE TO TWO DECADES OF THE JOHN MARSHALL SCHOOL OF LAW
FAIR HOUSING SUPPORT CENTER AND CLINIC
WHEREAS, On October 30, 2013, John Marshall Law School will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of its Fair Housing Support Center and Clinic; and
WHEREAS, A pioneer in the field of fair housing law, John Marshall Law School has advanced the cause of fair housing by providing legal assistance to those private or public organizations whose goal is the elimination of discriminatory housing practices. Founded to combat racial discrimination in the rental and real estate market, the Fair Housing Support Center and Clinic has twice expanded its mission; and
WHEREAS, In 2003 the Center launched the Predatory Home Lending Project in response to predatory loan practices based on gender, race, disability, national origin, or other prohibited factors that resulted in subpar mortgages. In 2011, that project evolved to include loan modification scams and property foreclosures with the advent of the collapse of the housing market and is now known as the Fair Lending/Home Preservation Law Project; and
WHEREAS, The Fair Housing Support Center and Clinic is as vital and necessary to this city and its citizens today it was two decades ago. The US Department of Housing and Urban Development has recently provided funding to enable expanded public outreach. More than 250 law students have participated in the Center that has benefited hundreds of homeowners; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman of the 2nd Ward, has apprised this august body of the significant milestone this praiseworthy project of this noteworthy legal institution has achieved; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 16th Day of October, 2013, do hereby salute John Marshall Law School Fair Housing Support Center and Clinic's remarkable two decades of operation and extend our very best wishes for its continued success in fulfil...
