WHEREAS, in His infinite wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Mary Lee Freeman on September 6, 2014; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Deborah Graham, Alderman ofthe 29th Ward, has informed this esteemed body of the transition of Mary Lee Freeman; and
WHEREAS, born on April 5,1929, to the late Otis and Sally Ellis, Mary completed secondary school in Greenwood, Mississippi, and learned the profession of nursing at Dawson Technical Institute. Mary became a licensed practical nurse in 1967; and
WHEREAS, Mary met her husband, Barnes Freeman, during her time in Mississippi, and the couple was married in Chicago. Mary attended church frequently throughout her life, both at Prince of Peace and at Rock of Salvation Church; and
WHEREAS, Mary loved the Lord and her family, she especially treasured Thanksgiving, a holiday during which she hosted four generations of family for over 30 years. Hosting and entertaining her loved ones came naturally to Mary, as her great cooking and better sense of humor led all to feel comfortable in her home; and '
WHEREAS, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Barnes Freeman; her son Michael Freeman; her daughter Bessie Jones; her sisters Annette Alton, Mammie Jordan, Odester Ellis, and Ollie Young; and daughters in law Yvette Freeman, Velma Freeman, Alma Wiley, and Benetta Freeman; and
WHEREAS, Mary is survived by her children Dorothy Hayes, Leroy (Jenny) Ellis, Roger Freeman, Barnes (Celia) Freeman, Emmett (Sherri) Freeman, Rev. Janie (Pastor Lonnie) Rucker, Rev. James (Pastor Pearlie) Freeman, Rev. Larry Freeman, Phyllis Freeman, and Gene Wiley; her sisters Betty Williams, Doris Steel, and Josephine Ellis; her brother Otis Ellis; twenty-three beloved grandchildren, two of whom she raised as sons, Kareem and Akeem Freeman; and her nephew Michael Jordan, whom she also loved as her own; fifty-four great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces; nephews; and friends; now, therefore,
