SALUTE TO PALERMO'S ITALIAN RESTAURANT & PIZZERIA
WHEREAS, For the past half-century, Palermo's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria has been lovingly serving this city's West Lawn neighborhood authentic Italian cuisine culled from treasured family recipes at their location; and
WHEREAS, Opened in 1961 at 63rd Street and Maplewood by Antonino and Carmela Caldarone and their children Benedetto, Giuseppe, Ignazio, and Maria shortly after immigrating from Italy, Palermo's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria soon established a reputation for great food made with quality ingredients and unique sauces. The restaurant proved so successful that, by 1975, the Caldarone family expanded to the property at 63rd & Hamlin where they remain today; and another location in south suburban Frankfort was added in May, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its five decades, Palermo's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria has garnered culinary awards and mentions in numerous premiere publications and daily news journals. Restaurant Hospitality Magazine referred to Palermo's as a "Miracle on 63rd Street." The Chicago Sun-Times food critic Pat Bruno recognized Palermo's in his "Chicago Food Favorites: A Guide to 450 Favorite Eating Spots" and, again, in an article titled "A Globetrotter's Guide to Great Pizzerias: Want Some Great Spots to Eat Pizza from Chicago to Rome."; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marty Quinn, Alderman of the 13th Ward has apprised this august body of this noteworthy ethnic eateries significant milestone; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City of Chicago City Council gathered together this 8th Day of June, 2011 AD, do hereby salute Palermo's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria on the occasion of its Silver Anniversary and extend our very best wishes for continued success to all the family and employees who serve some of the finest Italian cooking in all Chicagoland.
