Resolution
WHEREAS, Archie's Iowa and Rockwell Tavern, located in the Humboldt Park community, celebrate its 75th Anniversary on Saturday June 23, 2018; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by Alderman Roberto Maldonado; and
WHEREAS, Throughout Chicago's history, the corner tavern has long played a key social role as a gathering spot for local neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Originally called the Iowa Rockwell Tavern, the establishment opened in 1943 at 2600 West Iowa Street and would later become known as "Archie's" after second generation Arthur "Archie" Boroca continued on his parents' legacy; and

WHEREAS, Now in its 75 year, Archie's is owned and operated by daughter Debbie, and her children Katrina and Ken; and
WHEREAS, Archie's Tavern has liquor license 177 and Polka legend Lil' Wally and his band performed there in the late 1950s and Chicago's iconic country band played there for owner Archie Boraca's 60th birthday in 1991; and
WHEREAS, As famed Chicago critic Dave Hoekstra has observed, "Unfortunately in Chicago the corner bar has gone the way of corner news stands...but Archie's Iowa Rockwell Tavern persists"; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this 27 day of June, 2018, do
hereby congratulate Archie's Iowa and Rockwell Tavern on 75 years of operation as an example of one of Chicago's most quintessential corner taverns and express every good wish for its continued success in the years to come; and
