RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Joseph Mendrick has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 73; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Mendrick was a widely admired member of the law enforcement community and the loving husband for 46 years of Nanette; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Mendrick was the much-adored father of Bill and James and the grandfather of five to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Mendrick was the dear brother of Edward; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Joseph Mendrick was raised in Cicero; and
WHEREAS, Known for his humility and understated style, Joseph Mendrick enjoyed a highly successful 35-year career with the Oak Park Police Department where he served as Chief from 1991 to 2001; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, Joseph Mendrick increased diversity within the ranks of the department, especially at the command level; and
WHEREAS, While working in law enforcement, Joseph Mendrick earned an associate degree from Triton College and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Aurora University; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Joseph Mendrick serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Joseph Mendrick to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Mendrick was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Joseph Mendrick imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of October, 2016, do hereby commemorate Joseph Mendrick for his grace-filled life ...
