RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Pierre Mauroy has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Pierre Mauroy was the loving and devoted husband of Gilberte; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Pierre Mauroy was the much-adored father of Fabien to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The first socialist prime minister since the establishment of the Fifth Republic of France in 1958, the Honorable Pierre Mauroy served under French President Francois Mitterrand from 1981 to 1984; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Pierre Mauroy introduced many social reforms aimed at improving the lives of the working class; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Pierre Mauroy played a key role in negotiations with Britain to build the Channel Tunnel; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Pierre Mauroy served proudly as Mayor of Lille for many years and was Mayor emeritus at the time of his passing; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Pierre Mauroy serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Pierre Mauroy to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Pierre Mauroy imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-sixth day of June, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Pierre Mauroy for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Pierre Mauroy.
