RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, James B. Sloan has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 82; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Lake Forest, James B. Sloan was the loving husband for,50 years of Rose; and
WHEREAS, James B. Sloan was the much-adored father of Matt, Anthony, Nora, Jimmy and Sean and the grandfather of ten to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The son of Irish immigrants, James B. Sloan was raised on the West Side of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, James B. Sloan earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Loyola University Chicago; and
WHEREAS, During his long and highly successful career, James B. Sloan served as legal counsel in dozens of national anti-trust cases; and
WHEREAS, A leader in the Irish American community, James B. Sloan served as the President of the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago and throughout his life promoted many aspects of his family's native culture; and
WHEREAS, James B. Sloan helped establish Irish music schools in Chicago and County Down, Northern Ireland; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James B. Sloan serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared James B. Sloan to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, James B. Sloan imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of September, 2017, do hereby commemorate James B. Sloan for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James B. Sloan.
