RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In His infinite wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Daisy B. McKelphin, outstanding citizen and member of her community; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Anthony Beale, Alderman of the 9th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Born on April 5, 1944 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, She was the eldest daughter of thirteen children born to the (late) Andy Lee Jackson and Mrs. Queen Ester Edmond-Jackson. She confessed her dedication to Christ at an early age, and truly embodied the teachings of Jesus with her selfless nature and loyalty to others; and

WHEREAS, In the mid 1960's, Daisy relocated to Chicago, Illinois where she met the man of her dreams, (the late) Donald Jerry McKelphin, Sr., her loving husband of 31 years and to this union were blessed with two children, Donald, Jr. and Donna; and

WHEREAS, Daisy was a hard working woman and dedicated employee who took pride in her job responsibilities. In 1969 she began her lengthy career with the Plochman Mustard Company where she devoted over 25 years of service. In 1996, she pursued an opportunity with Little Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, II.; and

WHEREAS, Daisy was not done planting seeds of joy throughout the city of Chicago. In 1997, she became the epitome of a determined mother who knew the value of hard work at Western Collen Hayes Company until her retirement in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Daisy, an avid gardener, relished sharing quality time with her family, whether it be sharing a meal, playing video games, watching movies or being the handy woman around the house. Daisy lived up to her name and brought sunshine to any room with her contagious smile; and

WHEREAS, Daisy was beloved by all who knew her for her sweet and gentle spirt, love of life and appreciation for what she had, especially her family. She was a woman of grace, class, and wisdom. An active and vital member of her community, she never hesitated to give a helping hand; and
