Agreed Calendar Chicago City Council Meeting July 22, 2020
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, SamElla McKenzie has been called home to eternal life by the wisdom of God for her eternal reward on June 13, 2020; and,
WHEREAS, The Members ofthe Chicago City Council have been informed of her passing by the Honorable Raymond A. Lopez, Alderman of the 15th Ward; and,
WHEREAS, Mother McKenzie was born on February 15,1934, raised in Moro, Arkansas, to her Christian parents Sam and Minnie Broadway; and,
WHEREAS, Mother McKenzie married our beloved Cartha McKenzie Sr. in 1951 in the City of Chicago, a city that would be forever blessed and made better by their union and the family they would raise; and,
WHEREAS, Mother McKenzie was an exemplary pillar of love and hope to all that knew her, and, thanks to her pursuit of the SamElla HOPE Center, young girls and mothers that never met her will feel her warm embrace for generations to come; and,
WHEREAS, The passing of SamElla McKenzie leaves many with a temporary sorrow for our loss of a friend and family member, we know Mother McKenzie would beckon us to rejoice in her full and lived life, and the knowledge that she is sharing her eternal reward with the two of her life's loves: the Lord, God and her husband, Cartha; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twenty-second of July 2020, do hereby express our sorrow on the heavenly transition of SamElla McKenzie and extend to her family, friends and the greater community she served our deepest sympathy; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy ofthis resolution be presented to
to each of her ten children and Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church on behalf of its
congregation. v.
