friend and colleague, Alderman Michael D. Chandler, on his sixteen years of
dedicated and outstanding service to the people of the 24th Ward and the City

: WHEREAS, Born and raised in Chicago, Alderman Chandler inherited his spirit of service and community involvement from his parents, Minnie and Kermit, who were among the first African-American residents of this Cityto own d grocery store; and
WHEREAS, The youngest of seven children. Alderman Chandler attended Presentation Catholic School and Harold Washington College; and
; WHEREAS, After graduating from high school and serving in the Air Force as d jet engine mechanic stationed in California, Alderman Chandler returned to Chicago, where he founded Community In Action, Inc., and dedicated himself to leading grassroots environmental dnd qnti-crime efforts; qnd
WHEREAS, A supervisor of building inspectors for thirteen years ih the Chicago Department of Buildings, Alderman Chandler familiarized himself with the inner workings of city government and, qfter being elected to the Chicago City Council in 1995, he used his experience to improve his West Side ward, which includes parts of the North Lawnddle, West Garfield Pqrk qnd South Austin neighborhoods; and . ;:'V
