RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, John H. Bryan Jr. has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 81; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A widely admired business leader and philanthropist, John H. Bryan Jr. was the loving husband of Neville; and
WHEREAS, John H. Bryan Jr. was the much-adored father of John H. Ill, Margaret, Elizabeth and Charles, the grandfather of thirteen and the greatgrandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of West Point, Mississippi, John H. Bryan Jr. led the meatpacking company, Bryan Foods, started by his father; and
WHEREAS, John H. Bryan Jr. arranged for the sale of Bryan Foods to Consolidated Foods which eventually became Sara Lee; and
WHEREAS, John H. Bryan Jr. served as the Chief Executive Officer of Sara Lee Corporation from 1976 to 2000 and was one of Chicago's leading patron of the arts; and
WHEREAS, John H. Bryan Jr played an influential role in raising hundreds of millions of dollars to support projects that included Millennium Park, the Modern Wing of the Art Institute, renovations to the Lyric Opera House and Orchestra Hall, and the protection of the Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House in Piano; and
WHEREAS, In 2012 John H. Bryan Jr. was named one of Chicago's 100 most powerful people by Chicago magazine; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of John H. Bryan Jr. serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared John H. Bryan Jr. to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, John H. Bryan Jr. was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
