RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, James Patrick "Jim" Brosnan has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Morton Grove, James Patrick "Jim" Brosnan was the loving husband of the late Anne, nee Pitcher; and
WHEREAS, James Patrick "Jim" Brosnan was the much-adored father of Jamie, Timothy and Kimberlee and the beloved grandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, James Patrick "Jim" Brosnan was the fond brother of Michael; and
WHEREAS, James Patrick "Jim" Brosnan was a former major pitcher who played nine seasons with the Reds, Cubs, Cardinals and White Sox; and
WHEREAS, James Patrick "Jim" Brosnan was the author of the book The Long Season, which offered an inside look at the game, and later wrote Pennant Race which chronicled the Reds' 1961 run for the World Series; and
WHEREAS, James Patrick "Jim" Brosnan considered himself primarily a writer and ended his career at age 34 when he refused to sign a contract with the White Sox which would have prohibited him from continuing to write about baseball; and
WHEREAS, James Patrick "Jim" Brosnan's writings paved the way for other insider books such as Jim Bouton's Ball Four, and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James Patrick "Jim" Brosnan serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared James Patrick "Jim" Brosnan to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, James Patrick "Jim" Brosnan will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, James Patrick "Jim" Brosnan imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
